Guy Williams, visual artist
Realistic painting in a simple pleasant style, focusing on landscapes, wildlife, or experiences we may all have had or wish we have had, characterizes the work of Guy Williams.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1941, he was educated at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Education degree. Self-taught from drawing in the margins of his exercise books (called 'scribblers' in Nova Scotia) to painting marine scenes on shells and rocks for the Nova Scotia tourist trade to painting in oils and later in water mixable oils on mostly 11x14-inch panels, Guy has progressed to the present day, where he now lives in Windsor, Ontario, with his wife Cathy. He continues to experiment with new subject matter within his mostly landscape format. He is influenced by Alex Colville who taught at Mount Allison and is well-known for his realist style.
